The spotlight is shining brightly on the McKinney ISD ALPHA program with not one, but two state awards this December. Earlier this month, the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) named Webb Elementary ALPHA teacher Jessica Fair its 2021 Educator of the Gifted and the McKinney Gifted and Talented Alliance (MGTA) its 2021 Parent Group of the Gifted for the state of Texas. The awards are two of four statewide awards bestowed by TAGT each year.

On Friday, Dec. 3, a dismally cloudy morning couldn’t dampen the sunny disposition at Audi McKinney as a cavalcade of cars rolled out of the parking lot and fanned out across the city to deliver McKinney Education Foundation (MEF) grants to McKinney ISD educators. McKinney ISD has been named to the 2021 Dallas Morning News Top 100 Places to Work list, marking the second time that the district has been recognized in DMN’s annual tally of area companies.

Nicco DeFelice and his brother Rocco are both McKinney ISD graduates who currently work on elementary campuses in the district, and for them, working in the field of education is simply “the family business.”

McKinney ISD students taking part in Advanced Placement (AP) exams in the spring of 2021 earned accolades from the College Board for their performance, with 701 students from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School receiving recognition. In addition, Ethan Bickel, a junior at McKinney High School, earned a perfect score on the AP Computer Science A exam, placing him among the top .5 percent of the 63,980 AP test-takers for that exam worldwide.
