McKinney Leaders and Organizations Unite to Form One Heart McKinney, a Community-Wide Coalition that Streamlines Support—Scott Elliott to Serve as Executive Director
McKinney community leaders including Mayor George Fuller, MISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel, McKinney Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Lisa Hermes, Wells Group founder Rick Wells, and others are excited to announce the official formation of a new community collaboration called One Heart McKinney (OHM), with the Executive Director role to be filled by Scott Elliott, current Executive Director at Community Lifeline Center.
McKinney North Band, McKinney Boyd Orchestra and MHS Orchestra Earn National Recognition from the Foundation for Music Education
This fall, the Foundation for Music Education has recognized the McKinney North High School Honors Band and the McKinney Boyd High School Consortium Orchestra in its National Mark of Excellence competition and the McKinney High School Philharmonic Orchestra in its Citation of Excellence competition, adding to the ever-expanding legacy of award-winning McKinney ISD Fine Arts education.
MISD Newcomers Program Helps Students from Other Countries Connect and Succeed: Zabdi Gonzalez (Part One of a Three-Part Series)
In this three-part series, we look at the McKinney ISD Newcomers Program through the eyes of an educator and two students. In part one, we meet Zabdi Gonzalez who did not speak English when she moved from Mexico to Texas in 1989. In spite of the challenges she faced, Gonzalez went on to become a bilingual teacher, assistant principal and campus principal, and she now leads the MISD English Learner Support Department.

This fall, officials from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and the College Board recognized 69 McKinney ISD high school seniors in five categories for their outstanding performance on the PSAT, doubling the number of MISD students recognized last year.

Connections Matter: MISD Interdisciplinary Study and Mentorship Program Helps Students Connect with Future Careers
The MISD Business Symposium is an annual event that provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors in the MISD Interdisciplinary Study and Mentorship (ISM) program from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School to hone their communication skills through mock interviews with professionals from the community and MISD.

McKinney ISD will hold a Fall Community Resource Night on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Old Settlers Recreation Center from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The purpose of the event is to connect MISD families with community resources to help improve and sustain the quality of life for students and their families.
