Melinna Herrera, Press Elementary Assistant Principal

McKinney, Texas – After two years away, longtime Malvern Elementary bilingual teacher and instructional leader Cindy Melinna Herrera returns to McKinney ISD to serve as assistant principal at Press Elementary. She brings 17 years of experience in bilingual education and instructional leadership to her new position.

Herrera comes to MISD from Frisco ISD, where she has served as a language coach since the fall of 2019. The return to MISD is a bit of a homecoming for Herrera. She began her career in education here in the fall of 2005 when she joined the staff of Malvern Elementary under the leadership of Sandra Barber. During her fourteen years at Malvern, she served as a first grade bilingual teacher, second grade bilingual teacher and as an instructional coach.

Now, Herrera joins Principal Rachel Constantinescu and Assistant Principal Rachel Cotton on the campus leadership team at Press. The second assistant principal position was added to better serve the students and families of the growing student population at Press.

“We are so thankful to MISD for continuing to respond to the growth of Press and adding a second assistant principal,” said Constantinescu. “This will be an incredible support to our students, parents and staff. Mrs. Herrera comes to Press with many diverse experiences in education, and she is passionate about student growth and helping teachers support each learner. We are so excited to add her to our school family and leadership team.”

Herrera and her husband Rene have lived in McKinney for over 20 years with their sons Alejandro (McKinney Boyd High School—Class of 2019) and Diego (McKinney High School—Class of 2024) and currently serve as the MHS Football Booster Club Liaisons for the Class of 2024.

“This school year marks my 17th year in education. Over the years, I have been very fortunate to serve under and learn from extraordinary leaders and work with some phenomenal educators, both at MISD and FISD. While I am going to miss my newfound FISD family dearly, I am beyond grateful for their kindness, friendship and for everything that I have learned during my time there. I am thrilled to be back serving in our McKinney community in this new role and look forward to partnering with Rachel Constantinescu and Rachel Cotton to support the staff, students and families at Press.”

Herrera holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Transportation and Logistics from Texas A&M International University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University in Austin, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler, and will be completing a Post Graduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics through The University of Texas at Austin’s Red McCombs School of Business in early spring of 2022.
