McKinney High School senior Kylie White is the recipient of a National ROTC Scholarship (Marine Option) valued at $180,000. When she completes her college studies and ROTC program at the university of her choice, she’ll enter active duty as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps.
MISD Pre-AP Courses Will Have a New Name, Same Content
When parents of McKinney ISD middle and high school students begin the process of course registration for the 2021–2022 school year in the spring, they’ll discover new terminology related to advanced academics in the MISD middle school and high school Academic Planning Guides (APG). MISD courses formerly designated as “Pre-AP®” will now be identified as “Advanced” courses.
Unstoppable: How Boyd’s Vivienne Garner Found Her Voice and Discovered Her Ability to Inspire Others
At first a reluctant middle school participant, Vivienne Garner found her voice through the Youth and Government program. Last spring, as a junior at McKinney Boyd, Vivienne became the first high school student from McKinney to win the governor’s seat at the Youth and Government state conference. Now, a senior, Vivienne has college on the horizon and is helping to lead the program through the challenges of a virtual 2021 state conference.

Cockrill AP Melanie Machost Named Principal of Dowell Middle School
McKinney ISD announced Tuesday that Cockrill Middle School Assistant Principal Melanie Machost has been named principal of Dowell Middle School. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the move at their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Machost brings 16 years in education, including four years of campus administrative experience, to her new position.
