Season of Giving: MEF Supports Teacher Innovation with Grants Totaling $115,000
MEF and McKinney ISD officials made their annual rounds on Friday, Dec. 7 to deliver grant awards totaling $115,000 to 52 MISD teachers and media resource specialists.
MISD Lives Kind: Wolford Diversity Days Foster Understanding and Kindness Toward Students with Disabilities
On Monday, Nov. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 27, Wolford Elementary held its annual Diversity Days event to help all of its students better understand the challenges faced by their peers who live with disabilities. By doing so, Wolford has laid a solid foundation for understanding, compassion and kindness among its students.
MISD to Host Low Cost ZAPS ACT Test Preparation Seminar in January
McKinney ISD is offering, once again, a comparatively low-cost option for professional ACT test preparation. The session is presented by ZAPS and is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2019. The cost is $64. Please note that there is a 45 student capacity for the class.
Music Matters (Part Two): McKinney ISD Receives the NAMM Best Communities for Music Education Award for Second Year in a Row
For this second installment of our two-part story about the positive impact of music education in McKinney ISD, we spoke with 2018 graduate and four-year McKinney Boyd all-state choir member Kylie Shelton and her fellow 2018 graduate and choir student-director Reese Lastrapes. We also visited with recently retired Scott Johnson Band Director Paul Stephens as he reflected on 34 years in music education. The common thread through it all…music education matters.

McGowen Elementary gathered on Friday, Nov. 9 to honor our U.S. military veterans and to say, “Thank you.”
A Tribute to Mildred Bennett, Namesake of Bennett Elementary School
Mildred Bennett, who together with her late husband, Dean, was the namesake of Bennett Elementary School, passed away on Oct. 27, 2018, at the age of 103. She chose to invest her life in kids and served 40 years as a teacher—24 years in McKinney ISD. She continued to invest in kids after retirement. Even at the age of 100, Mrs. Bennett was still involved in the school which bears her name. She will be deeply missed.
Crushing Bowling Balls, Building Stronger Homes: MHS Students Explore Engineering and Manufacturing at Simpson Strong-Tie
Simpson Strong-Tie hosted McKinney High School construction students for the second year in a row to celebrate National Manufacturing Day. The students got an inside look at the various career opportunities involved in the manufacturing process and took a closer look at the way the company’s engineers test its products.
41 MISD Seniors Earn National Merit and College Board Recognition
Forty-one McKinney ISD seniors have received distinguished recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and the College Board for their outstanding performance on the 2017 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

In its third year as one of the 100 Best Places to Work chosen by the Dallas Business Journal, McKinney ISD has been named the 2018 #1 Best Place to Work in the Extra-Large Business Category.
