McKinney ISD returned to tradition for its 2021 Commencement, celebrating the graduates of McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School at the Allen Event Center on Friday, May 21, 2021.

The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the employee compensation plan for the 2021–2022 school year at their regular May meeting on Tuesday, May 18. The compensation plan keeps McKinney ISD among the highest paying school districts in the area.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded McKinney ISD the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 2020, the most recent year evaluated by the organization. It’s the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting that is granted by GFOA.

McKinney ISD will offer free curbside meal pick ups at Finch Elementary on Mondays and Thursdays beginning May 24 and running through July 1.

McKinney ISD received some welcome news when details were recently announced about the state’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The grant fund was authorized as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP), that was signed into law in March 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. McKinney ISD will receive approximately $16.5 million in relief funds and must expend the funds by September 2024.

Community Lifeline Center (CLC) and McKinney ISD have partnered to provide a “Feeding Friends and Families” food distribution on Thursday, May 27th from 9 AM to 11 AM. The event will be held at the McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center, located at 4201 S Hardin Blvd, McKinney, TX 75070. This no-touch, drive through, food distribution will provide needed resources to those that are food insecure in our community. Each family will receive a selection of shelf-stable items including fruits, vegetables, and proteins. They will also receive a selection of fresh produce as well as dairy products. Since the onset of the pandemic, CLC has distributed more than 1,000,000 pounds of food through their “Feeding Friends and Families” program.

A returning board member and two new board members were sworn in Tuesday night at the May meeting of the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees held at the MISD Community Event Center. The swearing in follows the elections held on May 1 that saw four MISD Board seats up for re-election.

On May 6, May 12 and May 13, McKinney ISD celebrated 45 exceptional seniors at its 2021 Distinguished Student Awards Dinner at the MISD Community Event Center. The Distinguished Student Award is one of the highest honors that MISD bestows upon a student.

In this letter to the community, McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel provides an update on the district’s plan for masks at graduation, this summer and during the coming school year. Dr. McDaniel also addresses MISD’s plan for instruction beginning this fall.

McKinney ISD announced administrative personnel moves for next year. Two Boyd educators will be transitioning to assistant principal positions at McKinney Boyd High School, and one teacher will be joining MISD from Prosper ISD to serve as assistant principal at Cockrill Middle School.

Lawson Early Childhood School is now accepting applications for Head Start, Early Head Start and will accept applications for Pre-Kindergarten from May 17 through May 27.
