The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees named new officers for 2016-2017 and have chosen Bobby Amick to serve as president, Curtis Rippee as vice-president and Stephanie O’Dell as board secretary.
Molly Hovan Named MISD Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership
Molly Hovan’s leadership role continues to expand in McKinney ISD. The district announced at its April Board of Trustees meeting that Hovan, who currently serves as Senior Director of Teaching and Learning, will now serve as MISD’s Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership, a position in which she will support, guide and serve as a resource to the district’s elementary principals.
MISD Announces Nate Leonard as the New Head Football Coach of McKinney High School
At the January Board of Trustees meeting Monday night, McKinney ISD announced that it has hired Nate Leonard as the new head football coach of McKinney High School. Leonard comes to MISD with 8 years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, he has served as the head football coach at Canyon High School in Comal ISD.
MISD Names 30 Year Veteran Shawn Pratt as Lone Finalist in Superintendent Search
At the monthly meeting of the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees on February 28, McKinney ISD named Shawn Pratt the lone finalist in its search for the district’s next superintendent. With that announcement, the board will now observe the state-required 21-day waiting period before officially approving Pratt, who has served most recently as MISD’s assistant superintendent of student activities, health and safety. Pratt’s career in education spans 30 years, all of it invested here in MISD as he has progressed from one position of leadership to the next.
The 2023-2024 MISD School Calendar is Now Available!
The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2023–2024 MISD school calendar at their regular meeting on Oct. 24, and it is now available on the MISD website.
MISD Lowers Tax Rate Another 6.3 Cents
At their August meeting on Tuesday night, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved a 6.3 cent property tax rate decrease for 2022–2023. This tax rate decrease follows last year’s drop of 9.8 cents for a combined tax rate decrease of 16.1 cents over the course of 2 years and 35.7 cents over the last 7 years.
MISD Names Dr. Ebonee King Principal of Valley Creek Elementary
When the 2021–2022 school year wraps up in just over a month, Dr. Ebonee King will begin the transition to a new campus and a new leadership role in McKinney ISD. On Tuesday night, at the April meeting of the MISD Board of Trustees, the district announced that King will be the new principal of Valley Creek Elementary.
MISD Names McNeil’s Christi Jordan New McClure Elementary AP
McKinney ISD has announced that McNeil Elementary Instructional Coach Christi Jordan has been hired as the new assistant principal of McClure Elementary. The move was approved by the MISD Board of Trustees at their regular meeting held Tuesday, January 25. Jordan brings 8 years of experience in education to her new role as assistant principal.

At their August meeting on Tuesday night, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved a 9.8 cent property tax rate decrease for 2021–2022 that will result in approximately $370 in savings on annual property taxes for the average McKinney home value ($377,755).
Cockrill AP Melanie Machost Named Principal of Dowell Middle School
McKinney ISD announced Tuesday that Cockrill Middle School Assistant Principal Melanie Machost has been named principal of Dowell Middle School. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved the move at their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Machost brings 16 years in education, including four years of campus administrative experience, to her new position.
MISD Hires Garry Gorman as Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Garry Gorman will serve as McKinney ISD’s new Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The Board of Trustees approved Gorman’s hire at their April meeting.
