Molly Hovan — MISD Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership

McKinney, Texas — Molly Hovan’s leadership role continues to expand in McKinney ISD. The district announced at its April Board of Trustees meeting that Hovan, who currently serves as Senior Director of Teaching and Learning, will now serve as MISD’s Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership, a position in which she will support, guide and serve as a resource to the district’s elementary principals.

With 21 years in education and 14 years of experience in elementary campus administration, including nearly 9 years as principal of Glen Oaks Elementary, Hovan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience—and an enthusiastically collaborative mindset—to her new role.

“I cannot think of a more important role than serving as a coach and partner with our incredible elementary administrators,” said Hovan. “The impact our leaders make in McKinney ISD is vast and powerful, and I look forward to being a part of their journey to success!”

Hovan began her career in 2003 as a 4th grade teacher at a Title I campus in Richardson ISD. From there, her path led to Frisco ISD and ultimately to McKinney ISD in 2009. “It has been my home ever since!” said Hovan.

For her first 5 and a half years in MISD, Hovan served as the assistant principal at McNeil Elementary, and her contribution helped the school increase its student achievement across all subject areas by 20–30 percent.

Later, under her leadership as principal of Glen Oaks, she led the staff in aligning instructional practices to increase student achievement, resulting in an improvement in STAAR writing scores from 74 percent to 91 percent.

Now, Hovan will have the opportunity to impact yet more students and staff through her work as Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership.

Hovan holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in educational administration from Dallas Baptist University.
