MISD Board Approves Expansion of Student Technology Plan, Includes a MacBook for Every Student in Grades 3–12
The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved a measure at their May meeting that will expand the district’s student technology initiative to include a laptop for every student in grades 3–12.
Sperry Dedication, Stellar Design and Sold Out Shows Make for Grand Opening at MHS Performing Arts Center
On Jan. 31, 2019, a new era dawned in McKinney High School fine arts as the district officially opened the brand-new, 1,000 seat MHS Performing Arts Center. District officials also unveiled the Sperry Performance Hall, named in honor of longtime member of the Board of Trustees, Lynn Sperry, and her husband Neil for their staunch support of MISD fine arts. And, the MHS production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” enjoyed a near-capacity audience that night followed by two sold out performances to round out a highly successful three-show run.

McKinney High School JROTC Cadet Commander Attends Summer National Intelligence Academy with an Eye to the Future
Campbell Chase, a McKinney High School senior and Cadet Commander of the MHS Marine Corps JROTC unit, was one of only 47 students from six states selected to attend the National Intelligence Summer Academy held in July at the University of North Georgia—the Military College of Georgia. Campbell was the lone participant from Texas.
Sperry, Dankel and O’Dell Sworn in at May Board Meeting
Three returning members of the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees were sworn in during the monthly board meeting on Tuesday, May 16, at the MISD Community Event Center. The swearing in followed elections held on May 6 that saw Place 4, Place 5 and Place 6 up for re-election.

McKinney ISD to Receive $16.5 Million in Relief Funds, Will Lower Tax Rate More than Expected
McKinney ISD received some welcome news when details were recently announced about the state’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The grant fund was authorized as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP), that was signed into law in March 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. McKinney ISD will receive approximately $16.5 million in relief funds and must expend the funds by September 2024.
