Results from the May 6, 2023, election for McKinney ISD Board of Trustees Places 4, 5 and 6 confirm that incumbents Amy Dankel (Place 4), Lynn Sperry (Place 5) and Stephanie O’Dell (Place 6, At-Large) will continue to serve as McKinney ISD Board of Trustees members.

2023 Election Information

The 2023 School Board Election is scheduled for May 6, 2023 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., for places 4, 5 and 6.

Early voting begins Monday, April 24 – Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m-5 p.m., and continues with extended hours on Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2 from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.

About the Board of Trustees

The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees is comprised of seven board members who are elected by the general public to serve for overlapping terms of four years each. MISD Board members are not compensated for their service on the board. Elections for board seats are conducted annually each May. The candidates run for specific places on the board (Place 1, Place 2, etc.), but they represent the McKinney ISD as a whole. Once elections are finalized the Board elects a president, vice-president and secretary for one-year terms.

Eligibility & Requirements

To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, the office of school board member, a person must:

  1. Be a United States citizen.
  2. Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
  3. Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
  4. Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities [but see Ineligibility below].
  5. Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the following date:
    • For an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate’s application for a place on the ballot.
    • For a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate’s name is written in.
    • For an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made.
  6. Be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected on the date described at item 5, above.

Filing Information

Candidate packets may be obtained from the McKinney ISD Administration Building, 1 Duvall Street, McKinney, Texas 75063. Packets are available beginning in January of scheduled election years (January 2023 for the May 2023 School Board Election).
