New MISD Sr. Director of Administrative Services Dr. Michael Winters

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has hired Dr. Michael Winters as the district’s new senior director of administrative services.

Winters brings 21 years of experience to his new position in a career that has spanned the educational spectrum from classroom teacher to associate superintendent. The senior director job became available when current director Sonja Harrison announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2018–2019 school year.

Among his duties, Winters will primarily oversee the district’s student code of conduct and student handbook, which encompass student discipline and truancy.

“Michael Winters is going to be an incredible asset to the student support department,” said MISD Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Student Support Dr. Melinda DeFelice. “The interview team was immediately impressed with him, and he will be a great fit for our team. He comes to us with impeccable references and a wealth of experience, and I know that he will hit the ground running.”

Winters comes to MISD from Vicksburg Warren School District in Vicksburg, Mississippi where he has most recently served as associate superintendent, overseeing student discipline and a wide range of administrative departments.

He began his career in Vicksburg in 1998 as a sixth grade teacher. After three years in the classroom, Winters moved into campus administration and served in that capacity for the next 14 years, first as a middle school assistant principal and then principal. In 2012, he moved into his most recent position as associate superintendent.

Winters will assume his duties with MISD in early July. “I am so delighted for the opportunity to be a part of the McKinney ISD family,” Winters said. “I am eager to serve this school district and community and looking forward to getting started.”

Winters holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate in educational education from Jackson State University.
