McKinney, Texas — The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees April meeting is in the books.
I want to share with you a few highlights from our meeting last night.

We started the meeting with celebrations and recognitions.

We honored our “We Are McKinney” Superintendent award winners.
This month’s elementary winner is Tracie Holt. She is an art teacher from Glen Oaks Elementary. Our Secondary winner is CJ Shelton. He is an AVID teacher and coach from McKinney North High School.

Next we honored our Paraprofessionals of the Month.
This month’s winner is Andrea Guevara from Lawson Early Childhood School, where she serves as a Special Education Aide.

Our “Every Student, Every Day” student award winners this month included:

  • Ethan Barr from Reuben Johnson Elementary

Following recognitions we learned more about McKinney’s Project Graduation, which is a free all-night event filled with prizes, food, and fun for the graduating seniors from all three of our high schools. This amazing event provides an opportunity to socialize and celebrate in an alcohol and drug-free environment.

Next, Superintendent Pratt made several administrative announcements. He announced:

  • Alana Chisum, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
  • Molly Hovan, Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership
  • Laura Duree, Director of Purchasing
  • Maria Hafner, Principal at Wolford Elementary

The board approved consent agenda items, and then we moved to discussion items.
Russel May, Senior Director of Safety and Security and Stephen McGilvray, Chief Information Officer, proposed the use of Verkada as a physical security upgrade for all three high schools, the stadium, and the community event center. Verkada will provide upgraded cameras, access controls, environmental sensors, and several other upgrades to safety and security in McKinney ISD. The board approved the use of Verkada.
