Maria Hafner - Principal of Wolford Elementary

McKinney, Texas – After four years as principal of Webb Elementary, Maria Hafner has been chosen to lead Wolford Elementary into the 2024–2025 school year. Hafner is a highly experienced educational leader who brings 29 years to the job, including eight years as a campus administrator.

Hafner’s move from Webb to Wolford follows the recent announcement from Wolford Principal Ashley Williams of her intention to pursue opportunities outside the district.

“I am honored and excited to join the Wolford Elementary family,” said Hafner. “I look forward to building strong relationships with students, families and staff. Wolford Elementary has a legacy of academic excellence and partnership with families, and I am deeply committed to supporting the dedicated and talented staff as we relentlessly pursue high levels of learning for every student, every day.”

Hafner began her career in 1994 and has spent the past 29 years serving students and families as a classroom teacher, professional development school coordinator, reading specialist, instructional coach, assistant principal and principal. Hafner spent 11 of those years in Frisco ISD before joining the McKinney ISD team in 2016 as assistant principal at McClure Elementary. She was named principal at Webb Elementary in 2020.

Even as Hafner looks with excitement toward a new chapter in her career, she looks back with fondness on her time at Webb.

“Leading J.W. Webb Elementary for the past four years has been deeply rewarding and I’m incredibly proud of the hard work and high level of collaboration that the Webb staff has engaged in as a true professional learning community,” Hafner said. “I’m grateful for the support of such wonderful educators, families and business partners. Webb will always hold a special place in my heart, and I know the Cubs have a bright future ahead.”

Hafner holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in elementary curriculum and instruction from the University of South Florida, and a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University.
