McKinney, Texas – Bennett Elementary School nurse Sherri Nischbach, R.N. has been chosen as one of 51 finalists in the America’s Greatest School Nurse contest and will represent Texas in the competition.

America’s Greatest School Nurse organizers set out to find school nurses from across the country who best exemplify the caring and compassionate nature of the nursing profession, demonstrate a passion for the job, go above and beyond in their duties and who have made a personal impact on the students they serve.

Bennett Principal Amy Holderman and Asst. Principal Rachel Constantinescu nominated Nischbach who has served at the school for the past four years and prior to that served one year at Finch Elementary and 12 years as a pediatric emergency room nurse.

“Sherri is an integral member of our school community and provides excellent care daily to our students, parents and staff,” said Holderman. “She understands that at the heart of medical care is relationships and lives that out each day, both in and out of school. We are incredibly grateful to have her as a part of our school family.”

Contest judges reviewed nomination applications to narrow the field of entries through preliminary and semi-finalist rounds until a single finalist from each state and the District of Columbia was chosen.

The final round of judging to select the grand prize winner adds a bit of a twist that allows the community to vote online in support of their favorite nurse, and those votes will contribute to the nurse’s final score. Those interested in voting can do so online by clicking HERE beginning March 27 through April 16. The winner will be revealed on May 5. Voters are allowed to cast one vote per person, per day.

“I consider it a privilege to call myself a Bennett Bear and to serve students, parents and fellow staff members at Bennett Elementary,” said Nischbach. “Being chosen as a finalist in the contest is extremely humbling and it’s an honor to represent Bennett Elementary, McKinney ISD and the state of Texas.”
