STEM Club Gets Underway at Faubion
McKinney, TX — McKinney ISD has partnered with the Society of Plastics Engineers and Manner Polymers to pilot a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Club at Faubion Middle School that will be the first ever cohort of its kind in the state of Texas.

The Society of Plastics Engineers Lion’s Den STEM Club at Faubion Middle School inducted its first members on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
Sponsoring the club are Faubion teachers Jimmy Lazcano and Eryn Ruff who engaged sixth graders in a fun and meaningful STEM experience in March when Society of Plastics Engineers from Michigan visited the campus to serve as guest educators. Students experimented with manipulating polymer chains and learned about the importance of plastics in our everyday lives.
Last week, 25 students were inducted into the Society of Plastics Engineers Lion’s Den STEM Club where they have committed to learn more about STEM. In the works is a field trip to Manner Polymers in McKinney on May 17 where club members will be scientists for the day. When the club gets fully underway next school year, they’ll meet on Thursdays at Faubion.
