McKinney, Texas (May 25, 2016) – As she eases into the black leather driver’s seat of a brand new Chevy Camaro, McKinney ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year Carol Winters says with a laugh, “I chose something that I wouldn’t normally drive.”
Maybe so, but within moments, the veteran AP English teacher from McKinney High School looks right at home in this new set of wheels that is sure to be the envy of her students.

Sales Manager Rusty McDonald will hand the keys over to her in a few minutes, and it’ll be Winters’ to drive for a year—free of charge—courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet Mazda in McKinney.
While Winters soaks up the coolness of her new Camaro, Megan Whittaker smiles and opens the back hatch of a new 2016 Chevy Equinox. “I teach Pre-K, and I carry a lot of bins back and forth between school and home. There’s no way I could fit everything in that car,” she laughs, gesturing toward Winters’ Camaro. As the 2016 MISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, Whittaker is receiving a new vehicle, too.

“It is truly, truly an honor,” says McDonald of the opportunity to offer the use of these vehicles to Winters and Whittaker. “It’s awesome. We feel very fortunate to be able to help.”
It’s one way the dealership hopes to show its appreciation for the teachers of MISD.

The generosity of the gesture is not taken for granted.
“I just think it’s amazing that a car dealership would show this much appreciation to our teachers and our community,” says Whittaker. “They’re a business, and I know that they could be making money from these cars. But, instead they’re showing their appreciation for the school district.”
And, what better time to hop into a new car than summer? School will roll back around soon enough, and the time for loading up bins and teaching supplies will be here again before we know it.
But, for now, it’s time to relax a little…and just cruise.
