McKinney, Texas — More than 40 volunteers from McKinney ISD and the local business community helped make the 2022 MISD Interdisciplinary Study and Mentorship (ISM) Business Symposium a success once again.

Held this year at the McKinney campus of Collin College on Friday, Sept. 16, the Business Symposium is an annual event that provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School who take part in the ISM program to hone their communication skills through interviews with professionals from the community and MISD.

At the 2022 McKinney ISD Interdisciplinary Study and Mentorship Business Symposium held at Collin College in McKinney on Sept. 16, 2022, students had the chance to practice their interviewing skills with MISD faculty and volunteers from the local business community.

Students interviewed for 15 minutes at a time as they rotated from table to table throughout the morning. At the conclusion of each session, they received feedback from the interviewer. By the end of the morning, each student had had a chance to interview with five to six volunteers.

Boyd senior Isabelle Volfe, who wants to practice law, said that the symposium was a great learning opportunity.

“It’s been really good,” Isabelle said. “This is my first time being interviewed ever, and the experience so far has been great, just getting the experience to really talk to people and learn about them—not only to talk about yourself, but learn about them. Getting the experience through this program, through ISM, has been just a really great opportunity. The feedback has been absolutely amazing … It’s constructive criticism. It’s really helpful.”

MISD Coordinator of Advanced Academics and Secondary GT Dr. Javetta Jones Roberson organized the event and was pleased with the results. “The purpose here today is to ensure that our students build those interviewing skills and networking skills that they will need once they leave our MISD schools and venture off into the world,” she said. “We are so excited to have our amazing volunteers here to help support this awesome event, and we’re very happy that it has been going smoothly and as planned.”
