McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has hired longtime educator Adrienne Morris as its new senior director of special populations. The MISD Board of Trustees approved the decision at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The position became available earlier this month with the retirement of Dr. Paul Foster, who served as MISD’s senior director of special populations for the past 12 years.

“We are so pleased to have Adrienne on board,” said MISD Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Student Support Suzy Woodard. “With her experience as a special education director, Adrienne will be able to hit the ground running in MISD. We were fortunate to find such an outstanding, experienced candidate with McKinney roots, and we are excited to welcome her to our team.”

Morris, a 1990 graduate of McKinney High School, has remained relatively close to her roots over the course of her 23 years in education. She began her career in Melissa ISD as a special education teacher in 1994 and went on to serve for seven years as an educational diagnostician in Wylie ISD and Allen ISD. In 2004, she headed back to the classroom as an English gifted and talented teacher in Van Alstyne and then returned to Melissa ISD in 2010 to serve as an educational diagnostician. In 2012, she moved into her most recent role as special education director for Melissa ISD.

Now, Morris will oversee an MISD Special Populations Department that serves approximately 2,660 students.

“I feel blessed to return to my hometown and join an amazing group of people who share the same passion for ensuring a quality education for all students,” Morris said. “Building positive relationships with students, parents and school staff is my number one priority. I am thankful to the board and administrative team for this amazing opportunity.”

Morris holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education as well as a Master of Education in Special Education from Texas Woman’s University.
