McKinney, Texas – While it has seemed more rain-soaked than sun-soaked thus far, summer is upon us, and for two McKinney ISD teachers, that means a new car to drive for the next 12 months, courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet and Mazda in McKinney.

On May 11, representatives from El Dorado handed keys to 2021 MISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Zulema Lujan Flores from Lawson Early Childhood School and 2021 MISD Secondary Teacher of the Year Anna Feng from McKinney High School, that will start two brand new Chevy Trax SUVs that they’ll be zipping around in for the next year, free of charge.

It’s a tradition that goes back eight years.

“Once again, we have this opportunity to serve our teachers in McKinney ISD,” said El Dorado General Sales Manager Jas Gill. “The Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year are both going to have the opportunity to drive a brand new vehicle for a year, courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet. We’ve done this for many years, and we’ve supported McKinney ISD in many ways. Anything they need, we got it for them. That’s our motto. That’s kind of the way that we want to serve our teachers who work so hard. And, we have the best teachers in McKinney ISD.”

El Dorado has a been a longtime supporter of the district and is one of MISD’s top Business Partners each year. In addition to the ongoing Teacher of the Year car program, they have also donated used cars for Project Graduation giveaways and in 2011 donated a new one-ton pickup for the district’s FFA students to transport livestock projects to and from shows. They have also promoted the district through billboard advertisements, various MISD programs and through their sponsorship of the KLAK Teacher of the Month program—which frequently features MISD teachers.

As Flores and Feng each sat in their new Chevy Trax, familiarizing themselves with the features of their new vehicles, both expressed gratitude toward El Dorado for their generosity and support.

“We are excited to be Teachers of the Year, but we really want to thank El Dorado Chevrolet for this great opportunity, and we’re so excited to have a new car,” said Flores.

“Yes, I am definitely so very grateful for the opportunity to drive something other than my Toyota Corolla,” added Feng with a laugh. “It’s very generous of the dealership to provide this gift to two teachers. It’s such an honor, and I am very grateful.”
