McKinney, Texas – Among the challenges facing K-12 schools today are two leading issues: meeting a higher expectation of cleanliness while dealing with limited resources. The post-COVID era has heightened attention on school cleanliness and sanitation methods, while at the same time, employee recruitment continues to be a challenge.

McKinney ISD found one solution that solves both problems: robotic floor cleaning machines. In September 2021, the district installed auto-scrubbers at McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School to clean large hard surfaces, including the gymnasiums, cafeterias and large corridors. The scrubbers can clean these areas every night efficiently and reliably, ensuring schools are ready for students the following day.

“The auto-scrubbers have been a huge advantage during our struggles with current labor shortages,” said MISD Chief Operations Officer Greg Suttle. “We are delighted that Aramark had the vision to suggest that the district partner with them to make this long-term equipment investment.”

Suttle said that a portion of the time-consuming task of cleaning and sanitizing large areas of the school building is now accomplished by the robotic floor scrubbers, allowing the remaining Aramark staff time to concentrate on the more detailed cleaning tasks and projects throughout the schools.

“We are happy we made the investment,” said Suttle.
