For their performance on Advanced Placement exams last spring, 888 McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School AP students earned recognition from the College Board, including 58 who earned National AP Scholar status and two who earned AP International Diploma recognition.

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD students taking part in Advanced Placement (AP) exams in the spring of 2020 earned accolades from the College Board for their performance, with close to 900 students from McKinney Boyd High School, McKinney High School and McKinney North High School receiving recognition.

AP exams are scored on a five-point scale, and College Board highlights outstanding student performance in five categories:

—AP Scholar—receives scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams
—AP Scholar with Honor—receives an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of those exams
—AP Scholar with Distinction—receives an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of those exams
—National AP Scholar—receives an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of those exams
—AP International Diploma—globally recognized certificate awarded to students who display exceptional achievement across a variety of disciplines.

Among the three MISD high schools, 454 students earned AP Scholar recognition,  139 were AP Scholars with Honor, 235 were named AP Scholars with Distinction, 58 earned National AP Scholar accolades and two earned AP International Diploma status.

“MISD is blessed with a tremendous number of talented AP teachers,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel. “I believe that our student scores continue to reflect their hard work, and our commitment to Advanced Placement classes continues to pay dividends for MISD.”

AP exams were administered last May, and the success of MISD test-takers in the midst of a global pandemic is noteworthy.

“We are extremely proud and grateful for our highly talented Advanced Placement teachers and students here in McKinney ISD,” said Dr. Javetta Jones-Roberson, MISD Secondary Coordinator of GT and Advanced Academics. “Advanced Placement courses and exams allow students to challenge themselves, develop critical thinking skills through rigorous and relevant coursework, explore their interests and create an opportunity for students to earn college credit. The highlighted performance of our three high schools shows the resilience of our AP teachers and students during this past year’s AP administration. We are honored to celebrate their hard work!”
