Tawn King — MISD Director of Human Resources

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD announced today that it has hired Tawn King as its new Director of Human Resources. King brings a wealth of experience to the position with 28 years in education, including 20 as an administrator.

She joins MISD from Plano ISD where she has most recently served as a director in their human resources department. The move to McKinney brings King full circle as she returns to the district where she first stepped into the leadership role of campus administrator in a decades long career that she describes as both fulfilling and transformative.

It began for King as a high school math teacher in Mississippi, a role that she said she passionately embraced for eight years. “But, my commitment to education and desire to make a broader impact led me to become a curriculum coordinator and then administrator,” she said. “McKinney ISD offered me my first administrative position as an assistant principal at McKinney North High School in 2005.”

After seven years at North, King relocated to Tennessee and joined Shelby County Schools as a vocational technology administrator, where she dedicated four years to advancing vocational education.

Her return to Texas in 2016 marked a new chapter as she joined Plano ISD to serve as an assistant principal at Shepton High School. Two years later, she transitioned to the role of Assistant Director for Employee Recruitment and Retention, a position that allowed her to focus on the crucial job of attracting and retaining exceptional educators.

Within two years, her dedication and hard work opened doors to greater leadership opportunities, and she was promoted to Director of Human Resources where she has worked to support campus principals and ensure recruitment of highly talented teachers.

Now, she brings that expertise to MISD. “I am so excited for this opportunity to return to McKinney ISD,” said King. “It’s wonderful to have a job that lets me do what I am passionate about, which is supporting the most important asset of any organization: its people. I have always considered McKinney my home, and returning feels like coming full circle. Being able to contribute to the community that has given so much to my family and me is incredibly fulfilling. As we work together, I am committed to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for all staff and students, ensuring that we continue to uphold the values and standards that make McKinney ISD exceptional.”

King said that she is the proud mother of Maia—a 2012 McKinney North graduate—and grandmother to Mylah Rose. “I cherish the strong family values that our community upholds,” said King. “It truly feels like coming home to be part of such a wonderful place where family is at the heart of everything we do.”

King earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Alcorn State University and her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
