Jeff Banner – MISD Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD announced on May 8, that the district has hired Jeff Banner to serve as its Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership. Banner comes to MISD from Plano ISD where he has most recently served as principal of Plano Senior High School.

Banner brings 18 years in education to his new position, including 13 years of administrative experience. As Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership, Banner will support, guide and serve as a resource to MISD’s secondary principals.

For Banner, who has lived in McKinney for the past 10 years, the move is like coming home.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to join the MISD family,” Banner said. “I am thrilled to support and lead our secondary administrators to best serve students, staff and the community. As a proud parent of two MISD students, I am excited to now call MISD home!”

Banner began his career in 2006 as a middle school teacher and coach at Frankford Middle School in Plano ISD. Within a few years, his leadership talent opened opportunities to serve as the campus athletic coordinator before moving into administration as the middle school Dean of Students.

In 2013, he moved to Plano’s Jasper High School as an assistant principal and was named principal of Shepton High School in 2016. After five years at Shepton, he was chosen to serve as principal of Plano Senior High School.

Banner said that during his time as a campus principal he worked to “shrink” the campus to foster positive relationships and increase student involvement, while also aligning instruction practices and expectations to improve student outcomes.

“Ultimately,” he said, “I believe that we need to ensure that all students have a viable post-secondary plan and that we equip them with the resources they need to carry out that plan.”

Banner earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas. He holds a master’s degree in athletic training from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University.
