McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has hired Alana Chisum as its new assistant superintendent of human resources. Chisum comes to MISD from Allen ISD, where she has led their human resources department for the past four years. In all, Chisum brings 16 years in education to the job, including a decade of administrative experience.

Chisum launched her career as an elementary classroom teacher, serving first in Garland ISD and then Plano ISD. But, in 2010, a move to Childress ISD in West Texas found her not only in a new landscape but in new educational territory as she moved to the high school classroom to teach English.

During her time in Childress, Chisum took on greater leadership roles first as the district’s special programs director in which she oversaw a broad range of school business that included federal programs and grants, curriculum and instruction and accountability and district testing. In addition to that role, she served as an interim principal at both the high school and elementary levels.

In 2015, Chisum returned to North Texas where doors to leadership opportunities continued to open. She served as an assistant principal in Allen for two years before the district named her principal of Anderson Elementary, and in 2019 chose her to serve as principal of Preston Elementary. In 2020, she became Allen’s director of human resources.

Now, she brings her expertise and experience to MISD as its assistant superintendent of human resources.

It is a dream come true to work in a district with such a remarkable reputation and one that I have come to love as a resident over the past nine years.”

Chisum holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Texas Tech University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University.
