McKinney, Texas – The final days of the school year are upon us, and that means it is once again time for the McKinney ISD Teacher of the Year to drive into summer behind the wheel of a new Chevy, free of charge for one year, courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney.

On Monday, May 20, MISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Danielle Freeman, a special education teacher from Frazier Elementary, was joined by MISD officials, family and Frazier staff at El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney to pick up her sparkling new vehicle, a 2024 Chevy Equinox in Riptide Blue Metallic.

McKinney ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Danielle Freeman sits in the new 2024 Chevy Equinox that she’ll drive free of charge for the next year courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney.

It’s a tradition that began well over a decade ago, an opportunity that El Dorado Chevrolet created to demonstrate their appreciation and support for teachers. Over the years, MISD Teachers of the Year have hit the road in everything from Tahoes to Camaros to Silverado pickups.

“One of the proudest moments at El Dorado Chevrolet is when we give the Teacher of the Year in McKinney ISD a vehicle to drive for a year,” said Jas Gill, El Dorado general sales manager. “And, we are proud of that. I think it’s been over 12 years. Because teachers are so important to society.”

As Freeman slid behind the wheel of the Equinox, soaking in the moment, she said that the timing was perfect. “My car is on its last leg,” she said. “This morning, I had to call in because I was late for work because I had to put more coolant in it. So, it’s perfect timing. I’m feeling unbelievably blessed to not have to worry about that for the next year.”

And, we can’t think of a better way for a fantastic teacher to wrap up the school year.
