McKinney ISD’s Board of Trustees meeting on August 28, 2023, our first meeting of this school year, is in the books.

I want to share with you a few of the highlights from our meeting. This is an exciting and busy time of year. We are now a few weeks into school, and our teachers and students are doing great work! I want to take this opportunity to thank our hard working teachers and staff for ALL that they’re doing for our students and our district.

The meeting started with celebrations and recognitions. We recognized Dr. David Hodum who was named the Evans Middle School Principal when Dr. Paula Kent moved over to McKinney High School.

We also recognized the 2023 MathCON National Finalists and Alternates. We were excited to learn that Webb Elementary was ranked #7 in the nation.

We celebrated our 2023 McKinney ISD Baylor Talent Identification Program, or TIP Scholars.

We honored the 2022-2023 School Nurse of the Year, Jessica Green.

For the seventh year in a row, McKinney ISD received the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Following our recognitions, Aretha Jackson, our Senior Director of Legal Affairs, presented the 88th Legislative Session Legal Update to our board, which provided a high level view of pertinent bills that were passed and the impact that they will have in McKinney ISD.

Next, Dr. Michael Winters presented a Student Code of Conduct update.

And finally, Chief Finance Officer, Marlene Harbeson, shared with the board the 2023-2024 proposed tax rates. This year’s proposed tax rate is 1.1275 which is an 18 cent decrease.
