Irma Garcia — McKinney ISD Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning

McKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has named longtime curriculum coordinator Irma Garcia the district’s new Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning. As the title implies, Garcia will serve a vital role in leading MISD’s elementary curriculum coordinators.

With 17 years in education—all in MISD—and 7 years as a district level curriculum coordinator, Garcia possesses a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to improving student outcomes while supporting educational staff. The senior director position became available with the recent move of previous Senior Director Molly Hovan to the position of Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership.

Garcia began her career as a math teacher at Dowell Middle School, where she taught from 2007–2013. During her time at Dowell, she took on additional leadership roles, serving as Team Lead and Department Chair. Her passion for instructional excellence led her to the role of Instructional Coach, a position she held for 4 years.

In 2017, Garcia became the MISD Coordinator of Secondary Math, where she played a pivotal role in enhancing math instruction across the district. Her leadership and expertise have now led her to the position of Senior Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, where she will continue to drive educational innovation and support for teachers and administrators.

“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity,” Garcia said. “It is an honor to support our dedicated teachers, administrators and coordinators as we work together to enhance student learning. I am excited and committed to fostering the growth and success of all students.”

Garcia earned her bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University–Commerce.
