McKinney, Texas – Dr. David Hodum spent the first 8 years of his educational career as a science teacher at McKinney Boyd High School. Now, after 7 years away, he returns as principal.

With the recent departure of longtime Boyd Principal Dr. Jennifer Peirson, MISD announced on June 10, that Hodum will be Peirson’s successor as principal of McKinney Boyd, making him only the third principal in the school’s 18 year history.

Hodum has most recently served as principal of Evans Middle School and brings 15 years in education to the job, all of it invested in MISD.

Hodum’s years at Boyd were spent as a chemistry and AP Physics teacher in the science department from 2009–2017. During that time, his talent as an educational leader emerged. For three years, he was the physics team lead, and during his final two years at Boyd, he served as science department chair.

In 2017, he transferred to Dowell Middle School where he was an instructional coach before moving into campus administration at Evans in 2018 as an assistant principal, a position he served in for 5 years. In 2023, he was named principal of Evans.

Now, he returns to the school where it all began. “I am thrilled to come back to serve as principal at McKinney Boyd High School, where I started my career,” said Hodum. “I look forward to preserving Boyd’s traditions, supporting academic achievement and extracurriculars—and keeping this magnificent school as special as it always has been. Go Broncos!”

In addition to his leadership at the campus level, Hodum was a curriculum writer for the district from 2014–2017. He has been a member of the McKinney Innovation Team since 2019 and served as summer school principal for 2 years.

Hodum holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Doctor of Chiropractic from Parker University.
