McKinney, Texas – While some uncertainties remain about what the 2020-2021 school year will look like, one thing has not changed: parents must register their children for school. This year, that process includes registering students for bus service.

And, now is the time to act.

On Monday, June 8, 2020, McKinney ISD sent the first wave of its online registration system “Snap Codes” to the parent or guardian listed as the primary contact of each returning student (i.e., those who were enrolled in MISD on May 27, 2020).

Snap Code distribution continued through Friday, June 12, and by now, the parent/guardian listed as the primary contact should have received a specific Snap Code for each child that they need to register. (Those who have not received their Snap Code(s), should contact [email protected].)

Snap Codes are essential to start the registration process for returning students, and this year signing up eligible students for bus service is built into the process to ensure routing and avoid hassles on the first day of school. If parents delay, it could impact transportation for their children.

Students who rely on bus transportation will not be able to ride the bus until their parent/guardian has registered them for service in the system during student registration.

“Our primary goals for student transportation are to get students to and from school safely, efficiently and as comfortably as possible,” said MISD Chief Communications and Support Services Officer Cody Cunningham. “In order for Durham Bus Services to route each bus rider for the first day of school, they need student information as early as possible. We have tried to make it as convenient as possible for parents to submit their information by including the transportation piece in the online registration process, but we need parents to act quickly. Our goal is that parents of returning students will have registration completed by June 30.”
