We are so excited to open the doors for our Sea Lions on August 13 for another year of learning and building friendships that will last a lifetime. Here is our summer newsletter. Enjoy!
Want a screen-free idea around the house while beating the summer heat?
How about Camping Indoors!
Craft a "Safe" Indoor Campfire: You can't have camp without a fire, but you can make a perfectly safe, glowing version. Use empty cardboard paper towel or toilet paper rolls as the wood logs. Gather red, orange, and yellow tissue paper for the flames. Place a battery-operated tea light or a flashlight underneath the tissue paper to make the fire "glow."
Shadow Puppet Storytelling: Once you're tucked inside the tent, use your camp flashlight to project shapes onto the blanket walls. Use your hands to make simple animals (like a bird or a dog), or cut out simple shapes from black construction paper and tape them to popsicle sticks.
Indoor "Solar" S'mores: You don't need a real fire to get the classic camp flavor. Provide graham crackers, a smear of marshmallow fluff (or mini marshmallows), and chocolate spread. Let your preschooler assemble their own treat.

Rain Painting: Design a piece of art using paper and markers. When complete, place paper outside (no storm or lightning present) and let the raindrops hit the surface, creating a watercolor look of art. Remove from the water when your drawing has met desired result.
Make a Rain Gauge: You can create a preschool rain gauge using an empty clear plastic bottle, pebbles, a ruler, and a permanent marker. Cut off the top third of the bottle, invert it to act as a funnel, and fill the base with pebbles to keep the gauge steady. Add a strip of tape, mark simple measurement lines with a ruler, and fill with water to the "zero" line.

HAVE AN OUTDOOR PICNIC
"Bear Hunt" Teddy Bear Picnic: Have your preschooler bring along their favorite stuffed animal. Before eating, hide the stuffed animals around the picnic area (behind a tree, under a bench) and go on a "bear hunt" to find them.
Red Light, Green Light: A classic game that is perfect for burning off energy in a big grassy field before sitting down to eat.
Cloud Shaping: Lay flat on your backs on the picnic blanket, look up at the sky, and take turns pointing out what shapes, animals, or objects the clouds look like. This is great for vocabulary building and imagination.
