Want a screen-free idea around the house while beating the summer heat?
How about Camping Indoors!
Craft a "Safe" Indoor Campfire: You can't have camp without a fire, but you can make a perfectly safe, glowing version. Use empty cardboard paper towel or toilet paper rolls as the wood logs. Gather red, orange, and yellow tissue paper for the flames. Place a battery-operated tea light or a flashlight underneath the tissue paper to make the fire "glow."

Shadow Puppet Storytelling: Once you're tucked inside the tent, use your camp flashlight to project shapes onto the blanket walls. Use your hands to make simple animals (like a bird or a dog), or cut out simple shapes from black construction paper and tape them to popsicle sticks.

Indoor "Solar" S'mores: You don't need a real fire to get the classic camp flavor. Provide graham crackers, a smear of marshmallow fluff (or mini marshmallows), and chocolate spread. Let your preschooler assemble their own treat.
Enjoy!

Happy Monday Sea Lions! We hope you have a great week. It looks like there are chances of rain every day this week. This calls for some screen-free, water fun!
Rain Painting: Design a piece of art using paper and markers. When complete, place paper outside (no storm or lightning present) and let the raindrops hit the surface, creating a watercolor look of art. Remove from the water when your drawing has met desired result.
Make a Rain Gauge: You can create a preschool rain gauge using an empty clear plastic bottle, pebbles, a ruler, and a permanent marker. Cut off the top third of the bottle, invert it to act as a funnel, and fill the base with pebbles to keep the gauge steady. Add a strip of tape, mark simple measurement lines with a ruler, and fill with water to the "zero" line.
Enjoy!

Rainy day craft ideas for preschoolers
Hello Lawson Sea Lions! We hope you are having a great summer break! We miss you. If you're looking for some more fun things to do around the house, here's an idea: Puzzle Challenges

The Puzzle Piece Hunt: Instead of handing them the puzzle box, hide the pieces around the room first. Hide the pieces of a familiar wooden peg or chunky floor puzzle in plain sight (under a couch cushion, on a low shelf, next to a toy). Your preschooler has to hunt down the pieces one by one and bring them back to the puzzle board to assemble it.
The Popsicle Stick Puzzle Craft: Combine crafting with problem-solving by letting them design their own puzzle. Line up 5 to 6 jumbo popsicle sticks side-by-side and secure them temporarily with tape on the back. Flip them over and let your child draw a big picture across them using markers, or glue down a favorite coloring page page and cut down the lines. Un-tape the back, mix up the sticks, and challenge them to put their own artwork back together.
Enjoy!

Puzzle Challenge Ideas
It's the first day of July, and there is no better way to kick off the month than with a new, screen-free activity- Painting Rocks! Here are some ideas:

Story Stones: Paint basic elements on different rocks—like a house, a tree, a star, a car, or a smiley face. Once they dry, your preschooler can mix and match the rocks to tell you a story.
Rock Monsters: Paint the rocks a solid, bright color. Once dry, let your preschooler squeeze a drop of glue on them and stick on various sizes of googly eyes. This is always a massive hit and requires very little precision.
Alphabet & Number Rocks: Paint a few rocks and write simple uppercase letters or numbers on them with a thick permanent marker. Kids can use them to practice spelling their name or stacking them in numerical order.

Enjoy Sea Lions!

Painting rock ideas for your preschooler
Good afternoon and happy sunny summer! Here's an indoor activity that you could try with your Sea Lion this week. Enjoy!
Build a Blanket Fort
The "Glow Cave" (Night Sky Theme): Use a dark sheet or blanket for the roof. Inside, line the floor with pillows and string up battery-operated fairy lights or push-button tap lights. You can even stick glow-in-the-dark stars to the underside of the blankets.
The Tunnel Maze: Instead of one big room, use the dining room chairs lined up in a row to create a long, low tunnel. Preschoolers love crawling through tight spaces, and it doubles as an obstacle course.
The Book Nook: Keep it simple by draping a large sheet over a flipped-over couch or a table. Fill the inside with a mountain of pillows, a basket of their favorite picture books, and a small flashlight so they can look at the pictures in the dark.

Happy Monday Sea Lions. It's time for another screen-free activity that you can do at home with your family.
Make Homemade Popsicles
The Science: You start with a liquid (juice, blended fruit, or yogurt) that takes the shape of its container. After time in the freezer, it turns into a hard solid that holds its own shape.

Taste Test: Use different flavors and have your child close their eyes to guess what they taste and/or the color of their popsicle.

The Melting Race: Put one popsicle on a plate in the shade and one in the sun. Ask your preschooler to predict (hypothesize) which one will melt back into a liquid first.
Enjoy!
