On Thursday, April 11, MISD officials, teachers, administrators and community members made their way to the MISD Community Event Center for the 2024 Teacher of the Year Dinner to honor MISD’s 31 Campus Teachers of the Year and to announce the 2024 MISD Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year.

Frazier Elementary 5th grader Alex Derkachov has done what only one other MISD student has done — qualify for the National MathCon Finals two years in a row!
McKinney Boyd, McKinney High School and McKinney North met on Wednesday, April 3, for the annual McKinney ISD Battle of the Blues Physics Olympics to vie for bragging rights and the coveted Physics Olympics cup in a series of physics related challenges. MHS won for the second year in a row and the third time overall.
4th and 5th grade GT students at Webb Elementary put their litigation skills to the test while holding trials in the "Case of the Missing Owls". “It’s just so much fun to watch them be truly engaged in their learning, and not even really realize that sometimes they are learning.” stated Alpha teacher, Tracey Stevens. The students set-up courtrooms in 5 classrooms and took on all of the roles in the court case, from bailiffs, lawyers, and judges. The students were honored to have multiple McKinney ISD administrators, staff members, and even Mayor Fuller serve as jurors.

McKinney ISD has hired Alana Chisum as its new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Chisum comes to MISD from Allen ISD, where she has led their human resources department for the past four years. In all, Chisum brings 16 years in education to the job, including a decade of administrative experience.
Molly Hovan's leadership role continues to expand in McKinney ISD. The district announced at its April Board of Trustees meeting that Hovan, who currently serves as Senior Director of Teaching and Learning, will now serve as MISD's Executive Director of Elementary School Leadership, a position in which she will support, guide and serve as a resource to the district's elementary principals.
After four years as principal of Webb Elementary, Maria Hafner has been chosen to lead Wolford Elementary into the 2024–2025 school year. Hafner is a highly experienced educational leader who brings 29 years to the job, including eight years as a campus administrator.
