Celebrating 100 Years of Fanny Finch Elementary

“Raise your hand if you were teaching back when chalkboards were considered high tech?”
That seems like a crazy question unless you are addressing the audience of a 100-year celebration, which was the case this past January for Finch Elementary. Current teachers and students along with former students and staff gathered to celebrate the school’s one hundredth anniversary of being named after the legendary educator, Fanny Finch.
“I started in England. I always wanted to be a teacher. And I’ve now been in Texas for 13 years…it’s just a pleasure being here.”

Stephanie Horswell is the 2026 Teacher of the Year for Finch Elementary. She is a special education teacher, and she has worked as an educator for 17 years.

For the past 8 weeks, 5th graders in Danh Nguyen’s art class at Finch Elementary became stop motion film artists. The young moviemakers developed compelling characters and story arcs as they meticulously captured their short films. The campus staff reviewed 19 movie submissions, and during their March all-school assembly the top 5 movies were presented. But only ONE received the “Best Stop Motion” Oscar!
