Drum Majors and Color Guard Captains from the McKinney Boyd Bronco Band and MISD TMEA All-State Ensemble participants were recognized by MISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt and the MISD Board of Trustees last week.
The Bronco Band qualified for the 6A UIL State Marching Band Championship in November, making them the first MISD marching band to attain that lofty achievement. During the competition season, they advanced from Regional to Area competition, where they faced some of the toughest programs in Texas and placed in the top 6 to qualify for state. At the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, they performed marvelously at the state competition and leapt to an impressive 27th place among all 6A bands in Texas.
Thirteen TMEA All-State Ensemble participants were also recognized by the Board. Every year approximately 70,000 students audition for All Region band, choir or orchestra. Through several rounds of auditions at region, pre-area, and area, individual students demonstrate their talent by playing or singing sophisticated, collegiate-level etudes and repertoire and sight-reading difficult selections that they have never seen. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in Texas All-State ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra and Vocal Divisions. They are the elite of the elite, the 2 percent of those who audition who qualify for an All-State Ensemble.
Congratulations and well-done to all of our MISD All-State musicians!
