In response to the national increase in fentanyl-related health emergencies among school aged children, all McKinney ISD campus clinics are now equipped with Narcan (Naloxene), which can be administered in the event of a fentanyl overdose. The supply was donated by Drug Free McKinney.
Nurses and SROs are currently trained in the application of Narcan (Naloxene), and training will be available to all MISD staff beginning Friday, March 24, on medication administration, dosage, side effects and MISD emergency protocols and procedures.
MISD will continue to equip students in the classroom with information about the dangers of fentanyl and drug abuse through our high school health classes. As always, student safety is our first priority, and we appreciate your support as we take steps to prevent drug use in our schools.
For more about fentanyl and its effects, see the attached information sheet from the Department of Justice/Drug Enforcement Administration.
