McKinney ISD High Schools All Receive an A Rating

McKinney ISD Shows Steady Academic Growth in 2025 State Accountability Ratings

McKinney, Texas  - On August 15, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the 2024 and 2025 Accountability Ratings for all Texas school districts and campuses. These ratings are based on student performance data from the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 school years, including STAAR/EOC results, graduation rates, and college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) outcomes.

Background on the Delay

The 2024 A-F accountability ratings release were delayed after several Texas school districts legally challenged the Texas Education Agency. This lawsuit argued various methodological concerns with the framework.  That legal hold remained until the 15th Court of Appeals lifted it in early July 2025, affirming TEA’s authority to proceed. As a result, TEA is now releasing both the 2023–24 (delayed) and 2024–25 (scheduled) ratings together in August 2025.

Understanding the Rating System

The A–F accountability system assigns one overall grade for each district and four grades for each campus: Overall, Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps.

  • Student Achievement evaluates performance across all subjects for all students, on both general and alternate assessments, College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators, and graduation rates.

  • School Progress measures district and campus outcomes in two areas: the number of students that grew at least one year academically (or are on track) as measured by STAAR results and the achievement of all students relative to districts or campuses with similar economically disadvantaged percentages.

  • Closing the Gaps uses disaggregated data to demonstrate differentials among racial/ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds and other factors. The indicators included in this domain, as well as the domain’s construction, align the state accountability system with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

MISD 2025 Results

McKinney ISD continues to demonstrate strong academic performance districtwide, earning an overall “B” rating with a score of 88, up from an estimated 84 in 2024.

District Highlights:

  • MISD again exceeded the state and the Region on STAAR Performance at every grade level in every content area.

  • 24 of our campuses increased in at least one of the 4 Accountability Domains.

  • MISD increased overall from 84 in 2024 to 88 in 2025.

  • 18 campuses have increased their overall scores from 2024. Of the campuses that didn’t increase, 3 campuses stayed the same (2 have A’s, 1 is a high B).

  • 1 campus earned all 7 eligible distinctions; 7 campuses earned 5 distinctions; 3 campuses earned 4 distinctions

  • All 3 MISD high schools earned overall A’s

Superintendent Shawn Pratt praised the district’s progress:

“The increase in our overall rating, along with 25 campuses improving in at least one accountability domain, is a direct reflection of the hard work of our teachers, staff, students, and families. I’m especially proud that all three of our high schools earned an ‘A’ rating, showing that our students are ready for college, career, and life.”

Looking Ahead

McKinney ISD will use these results to guide instructional planning, professional learning, and targeted interventions for the 2025–2026 school year, ensuring that improvement efforts are data-driven and focused on maximizing student growth and achievement. With this focus, the district will sustain high performance at the Meets and Masters levels, accelerate growth for students below grade level, and strengthen targeted support for student groups to maintain an upward trajectory.

At our August board meeting, McKinney ISD will present the 2025 ratings alongside results from our locally developed McKinney Accountability System (MAS). MAS is a local tool that adds multiple measures of student success and includes input from students, staff and parents.  To learn more, visit: McKinney Accountability System.
