The purpose of MISD’s ALPHA (gifted and talented) program is to identify gifted students and nurture their special abilities and needs; thereby, assisting them in translating their gifts of potential into productive performances and products that are commensurate with their abilities.

Gifted and Talented programs are required in all public school districts. Detailed program requirement information is available in the Texas State Plan for the Gifted document listed below. If you have questions about the information in the State Plan document, please reference the TEA’s Frequently Asked Questions document also listed below.

Program Goals

The goals of the ALPHA (gifted and talented) program are to provide opportunities for developing:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving strategies

  • Positive self-concepts

  • Intellectual and creative abilities

  • Self-directed, life-long learners

High school graduates in this program will be prepared to exceed the MISD graduate profile. Students receiving gifted and talented services will be encouraged to develop products and performance of professional quality throughout their school career. Additionally, students receiving gifted and talented services are encouraged to take college-level Advanced Placement (AP) and dual credit courses and/or pursue a certification in one of MISD’s many Career and Technology (CTE) pathways. To accomplish this, the ALPHA program will provide a rigorous, creative, and meaningful curriculum to prepare students for whatever passion they choose to pursue.
