Slaughter Elementary recently hosted its 10th annual Recycled Art Contest, celebrating Earth Day. This year's contest theme was STEAM: science, technology, engineering, and math. Students were challenged to create STEAM-related projects using recyclable materials in accordance with the City of McKinney guidelines.
The results showcased impressive ingenuity, with students crafting everything from robotic figures to artistic animal life. First, second, and third place prizes were awarded in each grade, culminating in the announcement of an overall grand prize winner.
"The students consistently impress me each year with their ability to connect recycled materials to artistic and engineering principles," noted organizer Mrs. Colwell. The PTO sponsors the contest prizes each year, reinforcing their commitment to this creative and educational event in partnership with Slaughter's library.
This annual contest at Slaughter Elementary effectively promotes environmental awareness, resourcefulness, and the exciting intersection of art and STEAM disciplines. Congratulations to all the talented participants!
