The Minshew Colts are celebrating 20 years of excellence as a McKinney ISD elementary campus, and this week they capped of the school year with a school-wide photo that depicts their legacy of longevity.

Kindergarten Science Recently, our kindergarten class has been diving into the fascinating world of animal research. We started by observing different parts of animals and connecting how these structures help them meet their needs. For example, we looked at how a pelican's mouth is perfect for catching food, how claws and paws help animals grasp objects, ears for hearing, and fins for swimming. Each student then chose their own animal to research. They wrote about their chosen animal, illustrated it, and created their own research booklet. Through this project, students learned about their animal's habitat, diet, and body features. It was wonderful to see our students so engaged in their research and to witness their unique personalities reflected in the animals they chose!

Exciting news from first grade today - our Reading Café is officially open! With so many delicious options on the menu, it was tough to choose! We were greeted by the most impressive staff. A delightful experience for all - we can’t wait to come back for another serving of stories!

Our Kindergarteners are Budding Scientists! This month, our little learners have been diving into the fascinating world of science! They've discovered that living things need space, water, and food to survive. Plus, they learned that living things move, breathe, and grow. First, our students created their very own greenhouses and planted lima bean seeds. They placed them in the sun and watched in awe as they sprouted and grew! Next, we explored the amazing world of earthworms. Our young scientists learned about their diet, habitat, and unique body features. The highlight? They got to hold real earthworms and compare them to non-living gummy worms, noticing how the real ones move, grow, and breathe while the gummy worms do not. We are so proud of our little life scientists in the making!

Kindergarten Round-Up was a huge success last night! We loved seeing so many excited faces and welcoming our future Minshew Colts! A big THANK YOU to all the new and familiar families who came out — it was truly wonderful having everyone together. Mrs. Larriviere, our principal, introduced some important procedures to our future Colts, including how to show our special Minshew Colt sign! And of course — it was GREAT to meet Bolt the Colt! He brought so much energy and excitement to the evening! We’'re so excited for the year ahead — it’s going to be an amazing journey!

Our second graders have been busy bees this week! They've been counting coins, solving money problems, and becoming real-world math pros. It's been exciting to watch them build confidence while having fun with dollars and cents

Big news from First Grade! Our classroom is buzzing with excitement—our baby chicks hatched today! For the past few weeks, we've been closely watching our incubator, learning all about the life cycle of a chicken, and eagerly counting down the days. Today, we finally heard our first peeps and watched tiny beaks break through their shells. It was truly unforgettable! Our students were in awe as they watched the chicks hatch right before their eyes. What began as a science lesson turned into a heartwarming, hands-on experience filled with wonder and joy. We can’t wait to care for them and see how they grow in the days ahead

Third grade wrapped up the week by soaking in the sunshine and enjoying a beautiful spring day! They had a blast putting their math skills to the test during a fun - filled Math Egg Hunt!

Culture Night was a HUGE success! What a beautiful evening celebrating the rich diversity in our school community! Students lit up the stage with incredible cultural dances, the art room was filled with vibrant projects honoring traditions from around the world, and the food… wow! A heartfelt thank you to all the families who shared delicious dishes from their cultures - it was truly a feast for the senses. We are so grateful to our amazing PTA and specials team for their dedication, creativity, and hard work in making this night unforgettable. This was a night full of pride, unity, and joy - thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!

Perfect Attendance Alert! Huge congratulations to Mrs. Weldele's class for earning the Perfect Attendance Pig last week! We’re so proud of your effort to show up each and every day—your commitment, responsibility, and teamwork are truly worth celebrating! Keep it up, and let’s see who earns the pig next!

Library Month Fun! We’re loving all the activities and dress-up days as we celebrate Library Month! From story adventures to imagination-filled outfits, it’s been a blast! Today’s theme was “Wear a Letter,” and we absolutely LOVE that Mrs. Hurst rocked the letter D for dragon! Such a fun way to bring stories to life and spark imagination in our students!

Out-of-this-world teacher alert! We are beyond excited to recognize Ms. Cannon, who is doing an absolutely stellar job leading our kindergarten classes this year! From day one, she has brought incredible energy, warmth, and a passion for teaching that lights up the entire classroom. Her dedication to creating a fun, nurturing, and engaging space has made the transition into kindergarten smooth and joyful for our newest students. Whether it’s a warm smile at the door, a creative activity at the table, or a comforting word when it’s needed most—she’s making every little learner feel seen, safe, and excited to learn. Thank you for being out of this world!
