Our Kindergarteners are Budding Scientists! This month, our little learners have been diving into the fascinating world of science! They've discovered that living things need space, water, and food to survive. Plus, they learned that living things move, breathe, and grow. First, our students created their very own greenhouses and planted lima bean seeds. They placed them in the sun and watched in awe as they sprouted and grew! Next, we explored the amazing world of earthworms. Our young scientists learned about their diet, habitat, and unique body features. The highlight? They got to hold real earthworms and compare them to non-living gummy worms, noticing how the real ones move, grow, and breathe while the gummy worms do not. We are so proud of our little life scientists in the making!

Kindergarten Round-Up was a huge success last night! We loved seeing so many excited faces and welcoming our future Minshew Colts! A big THANK YOU to all the new and familiar families who came out — it was truly wonderful having everyone together. Mrs. Larriviere, our principal, introduced some important procedures to our future Colts, including how to show our special Minshew Colt sign! And of course — it was GREAT to meet Bolt the Colt! He brought so much energy and excitement to the evening! We’'re so excited for the year ahead — it’s going to be an amazing journey!

Big news from First Grade! Our classroom is buzzing with excitement—our baby chicks hatched today! For the past few weeks, we've been closely watching our incubator, learning all about the life cycle of a chicken, and eagerly counting down the days. Today, we finally heard our first peeps and watched tiny beaks break through their shells. It was truly unforgettable! Our students were in awe as they watched the chicks hatch right before their eyes. What began as a science lesson turned into a heartwarming, hands-on experience filled with wonder and joy. We can’t wait to care for them and see how they grow in the days ahead

In 2nd grade, we’re diving into some exciting real-world math! We’re learning how to identify and count coins, create multiplication and division situations, and solve simple word problems. For example, we might count the total value of 3 quarters, 2 dimes, and 4 nickels, or come up with a story problem like, “There are 4 rows of chairs with 5 chairs in each row. How many chairs are there altogether?” We’re also practicing solving problems such as, “If there are 36 apples divided equally into bags of 6, how many bags are there?” These skills help build number sense, problem-solving, and confidence in everyday math!

“It may be just 2-3 minutes that we take that time out of our 30-minute block to really get to know each other, but then we get to have that bond forever.”

This week, our kindergarten class had an amazing field trip to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. The students first explored the museum's interactive exhibits, which provided a fascinating look at various aspects of the Texas natural environment. They learned about local wildlife, rocks, minerals, fossils, seashells, marine life, North Texas ecosystems, and more. Next, they participated in a geology presentation where they witnessed a baking soda volcano erupt and learned about sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. The live animal presentation was a highlight, featuring a hognose snake, a white ferret, and a turtle. The nature trail walk was another exciting part of the day, where the students saw the newest attraction, Bugs LIVE 2025. This outdoor adventure brought nature to life with giant animatronic bugs, offering an engaging and immersive experience. Finally, the day ended with playtime in the pioneer village, featuring eight playhouse-scale buildings that emulate structures typical of prairie settlements in the late 1800s. The kids had a blast exploring the miniature schoolhouse, grocery store, and settler’s cabins. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with learning and fun. This visit supports our Science standards by encouraging students to ask questions about organisms, objects, and events observed in the natural world, and to observe, describe, compare, and sort rocks by size, shape, color, and texture.
