Black History Month is celebrated during February each year to honor the contributions and rich heritage of African Americans. In addition to the activities and lessons shared during this month at our schools, we have collected a series of articles about four of our school’s namesakes. After each monthly Board meeting, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees gives a summary of the events and items covered during the meeting. This month, Board member Lynn Sperry provides the synopsis.
2024 marked the 14th year of the McKinney ISD Senior Adult Tour as the district welcomed about 60 senior adults on a tour of Frazier Elementary and McKinney North High School. It was another great opportunity for students and staff to connect with senior members of our community and for the tour participants to get an inside look at the great things going on in McKinney ISD.
On January 19, 2024, the McKinney ISD Athletics Department inducted the Hall of Honor Class of 2024, marking a decade of honors since the first class was announced in 2015. The Hall of Honor induction ceremony is a celebration of everything that MISD Athletics represents, this year honoring six individuals and one team.
UIL released its always highly anticipated competition realignment lists on Thursday, February 1, 2024, and the new groupings bring a fresh mix of competition for the football programs at McKinney High School, McKinney Boyd and McKinney North. Volleyball and basketball at MHS and McKinney Boyd will fall into the same alignment as football, but little has changed for North volleyball and basketball as their district remains largely intact from its previous iteration.
McKinney ISD continues to offer its high school students a comparatively low-cost opportunity to prepare for college entrance exams with a ZAPS® SAT one-day test preparation seminar on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at McKinney Boyd High School.
The McKinney ISD Two-Way Dual Language Program offered at Caldwell Elementary will be accepting applications from February 20, 2024, through May 7, 2024, for the 2024-2025 school year.
Richard Rensing was exposed to flying aircraft at an early age and took classes at McKinney ISD's McKinney Aviation Academy. He graduated in 2019 from Texas State Technical College’s Aircraft Pilot Training Technology program at the Waco campus and is now a captain at Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines.
On February 27, 2024 our annual Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) Hearing Report was shared at the regular school board meeting. This information as well as a copy of the complete 2022-2023 TAPR is available on our district website. Fine arts students from across the district have prepared a wonderful line up of shows and performances for the month of March. We encourage everyone to get out and support these talented students. To learn more about what Fine Arts events are available please visit the link below.
Science Under the Stars is a free, family-friendly carnival of scientific spectacles; featuring performances, games and dozens of hands-on experiences designed to spark wonder and fuel the imagination. Join us on Friday, March 22 from 7-9 p.m. as scientists explore our world from the atomic to the celestial.
Serenity High will host their 2nd Annual Fundraising Breakfast on Tuesday, April 2 from 8-9:30 a.m. at the MISD Community Event Center. The event will feature a keynote from attorney, author and mental health awareness and recovery advocate Brian Cuban. Click the link below to learn more.
