Let’s celebrate the extraordinary individuals leading our schools and the difference they make every day in the lives of our students!

McKinney ISD wrapped up its celebration of each of its 2026 high school Top 10 Students today at McKinney Boyd where Superintendent Shawn Pratt and Principal David Hodum greeted the honored guests and their family members at a special recognition breakfast.
As always, Pratt presented each of the students with a Top 10 Students shirt displaying their class rank on the back. These students have achieved something truly noteworthy, and Pratt commended them for the diligence that brought them to this moment, for the many hours that they have devoted to the pursuit of academic excellence, for all the times they chose the more difficult path.
"It's a big deal," Pratt said. "Being in the Top 10% is a huge deal, but being in the Top 10 students is really, really special. And, I am aware of the sacrifices that you made to be in the Top 10, a lot of late nights ... and that discipline is what sets you apart."
Congratulations to the Top 10 Students of the McKinney Boyd High School Class of 2026!

Vega Elementary Kindness Parade 2026
"Just like bubbles, the autism spectrum is full of beautiful, different colors. When we show kindness, we help each other shine."
For Vega Elementary, that's not just a sentiment to tack up on the wall; it's a principle they strive to live out every day. So, in honor of Autism Awareness Month, Vega held their second annual Kindness Parade this morning to celebrate the joy of showing kindness.
"Last year, when we were putting up our autism acceptance bulletin board in the main hallway, our kids decided they wanted to have a parade," said Special Education teacher Leslie Demattia. "So, we decided to develop a kindness parade and include some of our friends from the general education population to walk with our STC students and make their dream happen for them."
The whole school was ready to help out. They lined the walk around Vega, equipped with signs and bubbles, to cheer on their friends, to remind them that they belong, too.
"This parade is a perfect opportunity for the Vega community to show that we include everybody and care for everybody," said Principal Mike Forsyth. "It gives our students a chance to show the kindness that we talk about all the time."
The parade honorees weren't content to just be the recipients of kindness; they put together goody bags to deliver to every student in the school, to thank them for taking part in the parade.
Because the students at Vega Elementary have figured out that kindness is not something we keep for ourselves. It only works when we give it away.

Hot dogs, t-shirts, tree branches and a fake owl helped to demonstrate the dangerous power contained in electrical power lines. Students at McKinney Boyd High School gained valuable information regarding power line safety from the CoServ Community Relations and Education team. Their team visited all 3 of our high schools this past April, and we thank them for their continual goal to keep our communities safe and informed about power lines.

Thank you, bus drivers for the crucial role that you serve in creating safe, positive journeys for our kids. Your work does not go unnoticed, and it makes a huge difference!

The documentary blended news footage with video and interviews shot by Ean and Tyler and was chosen from some 1,800 student submissions. Mayor Bill Cox and McKinney City Council member Justin Beller, who were interviewed in the documentary, joined C-SPAN Media Relations Specialist Robin Newton, Charter Communications Representative Clem Maddox, McKinney ISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt, Boyd Principal David Hodum, family members and Boyd teachers this afternoon for a special award presentation and to view the documentary. In addition to an award certificate, the third place prize also included $750.
