McKinney, Texas — Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to McKinney ISD for its annual comprehensive financial report for 2025, the most recent year evaluated by the organization.

It's the 10th consecutive year that the district has received the award, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting that is granted by GFOA, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment. The honor comes in response to the district’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) that was submitted to the Texas Education Agency and to GFOA last year.

The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“We always strive to keep our community informed,” said McKinney ISD Chief Financial Officer Marlene Harbeson. “The GFOA recognition is an indicator of our success in that endeavor, and the district is proud to receive this award for the 10th year in a row. It’s a testament to the dedication of our staff and the district’s commitment to excellence and transparency.”

TEA requires that each public school district file an Annual Financial Report (AFR), but the ACFR that McKinney ISD submitted is a voluntarily created document that goes beyond the scope of the AFR and contains some 50 additional pages of statistical data.
