McKinney, Texas — McKinney ISD is pleased to announce that McKinney ISD Coordinator of Health Services Christy Giddens has been named the district’s new Director of Health Services.
Giddens is a registered nurse and nationally certified school nurse who brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience to her new leadership role, including 17 years with McKinney ISD. During her time in the district, Giddens has played a pivotal role in shaping district-wide programs and practices that support the health and well-being of students and staff.
"I am truly excited to step into the role of Director of Health Services and grateful for the opportunity to serve in a district that so deeply values the health, safety, and well-being of every student," said Giddens. "I look forward to leading our health services team and building strong relationships across departments, so together we can support each student’s health needs in a thoughtful, coordinated, and intentional way."
Giddens began her tenure in the district as a float nurse supporting all campuses and was later chosen to open McClure Elementary, where she served as the campus nurse for seven years. During her time at McClure, Giddens was recognized as McKinney ISD School Nurse of the Year and Region 10 School Nurse of the Year. Over the past nine years, she has served in district leadership roles including Nurse Educator and Coordinator of Health Services.
Giddens has led key initiatives including new nurse orientation, professional development, clinic standardization, emergency preparedness and safe, accurate medication administration practices. She is a strong advocate for data-informed decision-making to improve student health outcomes and operational consistency across campuses.
A Louisiana native, Giddens earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeast Louisiana University. She began her career with 15 years in cardiac critical care at Baylor University Medical Center and Baylor Jack & Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital, where she held multiple leadership roles, including Supervisor and Educator for the Cardiac ICU/ICCU, Pacemaker Lab and Cardiac Catheterization Lab, as well as Team Leader for Education Services.
Giddens' career has been marked by a commitment to nursing education, standardization of practice and collaborative leadership. She continues to mentor and support school nurses across the region and state, serving as a respected leader and role model in the profession.
