McKinney, Texas — There are few days during the school year that carry as much energy and anticipation as Convocation, when McKinney ISD officially welcomes teachers and staff back to work and sets the vision for the coming year. The 2025 edition held on Friday, August 12, was no exception.
As every MISD teacher, administrator and staff member gathered at MISD Stadium, they were greeted by board members, administrators and the cheerleaders and mascots from MISD's five middle schools.
Inside the stadium, a parade of campus principals clad in a wacky assortment of inflatable costumes kicked things off with a just-for-fun contest that quickly turned competitive, and then the audience was treated to performances from the district's exceptionally talented and always entertaining fine arts students from all three high schools—marching band, choir, theatre and orchestra—as well as the cheerleaders and drill team (McKinney High School Marquettes, McKinney Boyd Bailadoras and McKinney North Northstars) from each high school. Elementary and middle school choir members along with the ASL club led the national anthem as cadets of the MHS MCJROTC unit presented the colors.
Mayor Bill Cox and MISD Board of Trustees President Amy Dankel each spoke, expressing their support and appreciation for the dedicated work of MISD teachers, and Superintendent Shawn Pratt conclude the event with a look back at last year's many successes—and encouragement for the year ahead!
