McKinney, Texas - All three McKinney ISD high schools have earned 2024 AP® (Advanced Placement®) School Honor Roll recognition from College Board, and one has earned additional special recognition.

McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School each earned the AP Silver Award, and McKinney North High School earned the AP Gold Award. In addition, MHS was recognized with the AP Access Award.

"Our AP students and teachers have demonstrated a remarkable dedication to academic excellence,” said Dr. Javetta Jones Roberson, MISD Coordinator of Advanced Academics and Collegiate Partnerships. “As our schools have broadened access to AP with its rigorous coursework and challenging exams, our students have not only proven their intellectual abilities but have also prepared themselves for the rigors of college and beyond. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and the bright futures that await them."

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to 1) increasing college-going culture 2) providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and 3) optimizing college readiness.

The AP School Honor Roll program offers recognition across four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Schools on the Honor Roll may also earn the AP Access Award by demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework. A school’s overall recognition matches its base level of achievement across the three metrics. All three MISD high schools earned Silver or Gold for College Culture and College Credit, and they each earned Platinum in the College Optimization metric.

AP courses enable students to complete college-level studies and prepare for AP exams that offer the opportunity to receive college credit/placement for qualifying exam scores. They encourage critical and creative thought, fine-tune analytical skills, enhance reasoning abilities and serve as an academic bridge to help smooth the transition for students from high school to college.

The AP program in McKinney ISD is an inclusive program, providing broad access to participation in AP courses. A student in MISD may enroll in an AP class as long as the prerequisite courses (e.g., English II before English III) have been successfully completed, and the student is willing to accept the time and learning requirements of a college-level class.
