Child Find – McKinney ISD

Are you concerned that your child or a child in our community has a disability and needs special education support and services? McKinney Independent School District is ready, willing, and able to identify and serve all children with disabilities residing within jurisdiction who need special education and related services. McKinney ISD’s child find process seeks to identify, locate, evaluate, and serve individuals with disabilities from birth to 21 years of age, who reside within McKinney ISD.

Identifying your child as a student with a disability is a significant event for your child and your family, necessitating a comprehensive full and individual evaluation. If you suspect that your child may have a disability, please contact your child’s teacher or MISD campus administrator to learn about the next steps in the evaluation process. If an assessment is recommended, parental consent would be obtained, and the assessment is provided at no cost to the parent.

The district’s child find duties also extend to students with disabilities who are within the MISD jurisdiction and are placed in private or home-school by their parents. This includes highly mobile students entitled to an Individual Education Plan (IEP) such as migrant and homeless students, school-age individuals with disabilities attending private schools and home schools, school-age individuals with disabilities residing in nursing facilities or other residential facilities, Texas State Health and Human Services group homes, or Texas Juvenile Justice Department group homes located within McKinney ISD.

If you are in need of assistance or have questions about the child find evaluation process through McKinney ISD, please contact Megan Fulwiler at (469) 302-6337 or at [email protected]. McKinney ISD is ready, willing, and able to support families and/or answer questions about the McKinney ISD child find process.

Step 4: Response to Evaluation Request

Once all requested paperwork has been returned to the McKinney ISD home campus representative and the student has completed the vision and hearing screeners, you will be contacted by a McKinney ISD referral representative to explain the following steps of the consent process.

Proportionate Share

Students who have already been determined as eligible for special education services and are home-schooled or attend a private school within the district’s boundaries, may be eligible for special education or related services through the district’s proportionate share plan. Each spring McKinney ISD solicits input from parents and private schools regarding the development of the district’s proportionate share plan. For more information about the district’s proportionate share plan, or the solicitation of information please contact Marcie Waligura at 469-302-6352 or at [email protected].

A virtual meeting about proportionate share services will be held on June 24, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. If you are interested in obtaining more information and/or providing input regarding these services please RSVP here and a Teams link will be sent to you.
