McKinney ISD Special Olympics

The McKinney Mavericks are the McKinney ISD’s Special Olympics Team. The McKinney ISD Special Olympics team was formed in 1979 and provides sport opportunities throughout the school year to athletes meeting eligibility requirements. Sports currently offered with McKinney ISD Special Olympics include bowling, bocce, basketball individual skills, basketball teams, soccer teams, and track and field.

Eligibility Requirements for Participation

McKinney ISD Special Olympics welcomes athletes in their participating sports meeting the following McKinney ISD participation eligibility requirements.

MISD participation requirements for all competing sports, bowling, bocce, basketball individual skills, basketball teams, soccer teams, and track and field.

  • The athlete must be an enrolled student with McKinney ISD.

  • The athlete must be at least 6 years of age to 22 years of age.

  • The athlete must be compliant with McKinney ISD Student Code of Conduct

  • The athlete must be identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction.

  • The athlete must have a current Special Olympics Texas Athlete Enrollment/Medical Release Form on file.

MISD additional participation requirements for bocce, basketball teams, and soccer teams.

  • The athlete must be an enrolled student with McKinney ISD, classified as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or a student in the district’s Transition Program.
