School Resource Officers and Armed Security Officers
School Resource Officers
The McKinney Police Department currently has fifteen officers assigned to the School Resource Officer program. These positions are funded by McKinney ISD and the City of McKinney.
They are in place to provide protection for the students and teachers, and to assist students in the day to day questions they might have regarding law enforcement.
The School Resource Officers also schedule assorted educational programs for the students.
The City of McKinney, the Police Department, and McKinney ISD are continually re-evaluating the School Resource Officer program to insure the proper protection for students and teachers is provided.
Armed Security Officers
In alignment with the requirements of Texas House Bill 3 (HB3), McKinney ISD has taken proactive steps to enhance the safety of its students and staff by implementing armed security officers (ASOs) at all elementary campuses. These highly trained ASOs bring a wealth of expertise, collectively offering over 500 years of combined experience from esteemed law enforcement agencies across the country, including New York, Chicago, Ohio, and several right here in Texas.
With this broad range of knowledge, and a commitment to safeguarding our schools, McKinney ISD’s ASOs, assigned exclusively to elementary campuses, are dedicated to creating a secure environment where students can focus on learning. Our district prioritizes the safety and well-being of every individual on campus, ensuring that security measures meet the highest standards in the state.
