Long Range Facility Planning
The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees adopted a Resolution to convene a Long Range Facility Planning Committee (LRFPC) during the August 26, 2024, Regular Board Meeting. The LRFPC is charged to provide feedback and recommendations to the administration regarding long range building and property efficiencies, up to and including; campus programming; feeder pattern options; attendance boundaries; right sizing properties and/or retiring campuses based on current and projected enrollment. This is solely an advisory group representing a cross-section of our community with no authority to make final decisions, nor is their charge designed to make changes to our budget process to operate schools. The meetings of the committee do not meet the requirements of the Texas Open Meetings Act and are closed to the public.
The advisory committee will be comprised partly of Board-appointed members, with each Trustee nominating five committee members, with a minimum of two appointments each. Each Board appointed committee member will either be a current resident residing inside the McKinney ISD boundaries or an entity paying McKinney ISD taxes. The District will appoint members from the McKinney Community Action Network, as well as members made up of principal, staff, and student representatives. The District will accept applications to serve as a committee member and will only select those who are current McKinney ISD taxpayers. Consideration will be given to balanced representation from each sector of the community, as well as balanced representation from prekindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools.
Deadline to submit an application is September 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees adopted the McKinney ISD Strategic Plan on January 22, 2024. Pillar 7 of the Strategic Plan establishes that the District will create an updated master plan to address current and future facility needs.
Strategy 7.1 of the Strategic Plan instructs the District to identify and repurpose facilities that are underutilized; and
Strategy 7.2 of the Strategic Plan implores the District to build new facilities to differentiate MISD from other districts and to attract growth.
An action step to achieve both strategies calls for establishing a Long Range Facility Planning Committee to plan for the utilization of current and future facilities to maximize their full potential and provide recommendations to the District.
